Josh Wells (b. 1998) is a British painter based in Kent, UK. Josh completed an Art & Design Extended Diploma at Mid-Kent College (2015–2017) and a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Sheffield Institute of Arts (2017–2020), and is currently studying for an MA in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins.
Rooted in ‘psychotic automatism’, Josh's practice is one of confrontation — with the irrational, with the intrusive, with the parts of inner life that resist ordinary understanding. Drawing from his psychotic experience, he approaches painting as a behaviour rather than a medium; a sustained and repeated act of reality testing.
